Fion Liew

Biography

A psychotherapist uses talk therapy to treat people for emotional problems and mental illnesses. Depending on what degree and specialty they get, psychotherapists can be psychiatrists, psychologists, counselors, or social workers. They can work with individuals, couples, groups, or families.

Ms. Fion Liew’s warm and approachable demeanor provides a safe space in the therapy for clients to explore, express and grow. Many of her clients with anxiety, depression showed improvements after seeking therapy from Fion.

She strongly believes in helping her clients build a healthy and positive self-identity, which provides a foundation for them to deal with present and future challenges in their lives.

Fion started her helping profession by working with families with complex needs such as financial issues, relationship issues, addictions or anger management issues.

She has also worked with people who are intellectually or visually impaired. As a certified Advanced Certificate in Training and Assessment (ACTA) trainer, she designed curricula to equip them with important psychosocial skills to empower them to integrate into the society.

While she was with Care Corner Counseling Centre, she moved her focus to mental health counseling as she believes that mental health should not be a taboo, rather it needs to be faced and dealt with especially during the Covid-19 endemic that has shaken how we used to live life. Fion is passionate about this and she has been invited on TV programmes offering her views on the impacts of Covid-19 on mental health. She has also given numerous talks on how to incorporate good mental hygiene in daily lives.

Fion is a registered Clinical Member & Registered Counsellor (RC) under Singapore Association of Counseling (SAC). Fion has a Master Degree in Counseling from the Singapore University of Social Science, a Graduate Diploma in Counseling Practice from the Counseling & Care Centre and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She is well-versed with the major Psychotherapy approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFBT), Mindfulness Practice, Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Mindful Self-compassion (MSC), and customizes her approach to her client’s needs.
