Gastroenterologists are doctors who are trained to diagnose and treat problems in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract and liver. These doctors also do routine procedures such as colonoscopies, which look at the inside of your colon. They get 5-6 years of specialized education after medical school.
Dr Lui Hock Foong is a gastroenterologist currently practicing at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. He specializes in treating common and complex disorders of the digestive tract and liver, undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and his special areas are treatment of advanced chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, digestive disorder, portal hypertension, and liver transplantation for liver diseases such as liver cancer and liver failure.
Dr Lui completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the National University of Singapore in 1990. He then underwent his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine with the Ministry of Health in Singapore, before leaving for the United Kingdom for his advanced specialty training. Dr Lui trained in gastroenterology and hepatology at the Lister Postgraduate Institute, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (London).
