Also called family doctors or internists, general practitioners often develop an ongoing relationship with patients, providing continuity of care. They treat common medical conditions and perform routine exams. They refer patients to other medical services or doctors if patients need urgent or specialized treatment. A general practitioner focuses on a patient's overall health: physical and mental. They serve an important role in a much wider healthcare system. One of their main goals is to keep patients healthy and out of the hospital.
Dr Millicent Chee graduated from the National University of Singapore Faculty for Medicine in 1988. In the early years, she worked in the government-run Polyclinic’s Outpatient and Maternal and Child clinics from where she developed a particular interest in women’s health and pediatric healthcare. Since 1997, Dr Chee has been the Medical Director of her own general family practice clinic, Pro-life Medical Associates.
