Dr. Yeo Wee Song

Biography

A pediatrician is a doctor who focuses on the health of infants, children, adolescents and young adults. Pediatric care starts at birth and lasts through a child's 21st birthday or longer. Pediatricians prevent, detect and manage physical, behavioral and developmental issues that affect children.

Dr Yeo Wee Song graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2001. He received his Master of Medicine (Paediatrics) in 2006. Dr Yeo has been a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health of the United Kingdom (MRCPCH) since 2006 and he is a certified specialist in both Paediatric Medicine and Paediatric Nephrology by the Ministry of Health, Singapore. Afterwards, in recognition of his clinical and research work, Dr Yeo was awarded Fellowships to the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (United Kingdom), Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and American Society of Nephrology.

Before joining SBCC, Dr Yeo was a Consultant Pediatrician at the Division of Paediatric Nephrology, Dialysis and Renal Transplantation of the Department of Paediatrics, Khoo Teck Puat-National University Children’s Medical Institute, National University Hospital. He was also an Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He remains to be a visiting consultant to the Department of Paediatrics, National University Hospital.

On top of managing general ambulatory pediatric patients (including regular well baby checks, vaccinations and common childhood illnesses), Dr Yeo has also been practicing pediatric nephrology since 2007. His clinical practice involves all areas of pediatric nephrology including general nephrology, critical care nephrology and renal transplantation. He is passionate in researching subjects in the fields of transplant immunology and immunological basis of childhood nephrotic syndrome and has an extensive interest in bioengineering and medical device development. As a tribute to his interest in bioengineering, Dr Yeo has a recent publication on bioengineering in renal transplantation in the prestigious journal ‘Paediatric Nephrology’. Dr Yeo is also a beneficiary of several scholarships including the reputable ExxonMobil-NUS Research Fellowship and the NRF-MOH AST PhD research scholarship. He has also received more than 10 scientific awards for his research, including Young Investigator Awards at the 11th Asian Congress of Paediatric Nephrology and 8th Congress of Asian Society for Paediatric Research and a Poster of Excellence at the World Transplant Congress in 2014.

In spite of his busy schedule, Dr Yeo likes running marathons (having completed twelve full marathons thus far) and sport fishing. He also enjoys cooking up a storm in his kitchen for his family. Dr Yeo is an active participant in humanitarian medical missions where he helps impoverished children living in poverty and seeking access to enough food or proper medical treatment.
