Elderly At Risk Of Vaccination, Here's The Facts!

Currently, the Indonesian government has promoted Covid-19 vaccinations for various ages, ranging from 18 years and over, 12 years and over, 6-11 years, and the elderly or 60 years and over. However, it is not uncommon for this to be difficult. Many elderly people live alone, so they are confused about where to register or not being able to get to the vaccination location. But not a few also refuse vaccination on the grounds that they have a history of disease so they are afraid to receive the vaccine.

In fact, the elderly are a group that is vulnerable to transmission of the Covid-19 virus due to decreased body functions, so the elderly are among the groups that receive priority to receive vaccines.

Regarding the fear of the elderly to receive vaccines due to their health conditions, the same as vaccinations for children and adults, before getting vaccinated, the elderly will be checked first, whether it is possible to receive the vaccine or should it be postponed until their health conditions meet the requirements. The health condition checks include body temperature not exceeding 37.5°C and blood pressure not exceeding 180/110 mmHg.

In addition there are several additional questions, such as:
1.) Do you have difficulty climbing 10 stairs?
2.) Do you often feel tired?
3.) Do you have at least 5 out of 11 diseases (hypertension, diabetes, cancer, chronic lung disease, heart attack, congestive heart failure, chest pain, asthma, joint pain, stroke and kidney disease)?
4.) Do you have difficulty walking about 100 -200 meters?
5.) Have you lost any significant weight in the past year?

If there are three or more who answered 'yes' by the elderly, then the vaccine cannot be given, or its administration is postponed.

For the elderly who are still hesitant about the vaccination program because they are worried about their health condition, the elderly can also consult first with doctors through the mDoc application. Doctors will examine the condition of the elderly in detail and provide advice regarding health conditions and vaccinations so that the elderly can be more confident about receiving or delaying getting the Covid-19 vaccine.
