Amniosynthesis, Amnition Water Test That Can Detect Disorders In Babies

Still about Down syndrome, did you know that there is a procedure called Amniocentesis? Amniocentesis is a procedure for taking amniotic fluid to detect abnormalities and conditions of the fetus in the womb, one of which is a fetus with the potential for Down syndrome. This procedure is usually performed at 16-20 weeks of pregnancy, and requires laboratory analysis for 10-14 days.

Not all pregnant women are advised to perform amniocentesis. The following are indications for amniocentesis:
1. ) Fetal abnormalities found on ultrasound examination
2. ) Pregnant women aged 35 years or older, at high risk of having genetic disorders
3. ) A chromosomal abnormality is found, such as Down syndrome
4. ) Serious disorders of the brain or spinal cord

The amniocentesis procedure is carried out in the following steps:
1. ) Retaining urination before the test, so that the bladder is full and helps facilitate the examination
2. ) Ultrasound examination to determine the position of the baby, the route to remove the amniotic fluid, and ensure the needle can enter safely through the abdominal wall and uterus
3. ) Anesthesia in the stomach area
4. ) Disinfection with an antiseptic solution around the abdomen of pregnant women to minimize the risk of infection
5. ) A long, thin needle is inserted through the abdominal wall to collect a sample of amniotic fluid
6. ) Ultrasound image to see the sampling process

In general, amniocentesis can be used to detect:
1. ) Chromosomal disorders, such as Down syndrome, trisomy 13, trisomy 18, and sex chromosomal abnormalities
2. ) Genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis, sickle cell disease, Tay-Sachs disease
3. ) Neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, anencephaly
4. ) Congenital gene defects
5. ) Metabolic disorders based on family history
6. ) Maturation of fetal lung function
