Regulate Body Fluids To Avoid Dehydration While Fasting

Dehydration is a common problem that is often experienced by people who fast in this month of Ramadan. Dehydration occurs because the body does not get fluid intake for a certain time, after suhoor until fast breaking. Furthermore, if we do a busy activity that causes the body to lose more fluids. If the body lacks fluids, will causes dehydration and other health problems.

Dehydration has symptoms by dry mouth and throat, dizziness, weakness, headache, nausea, dark urine, and fainting.

In order to avoid dehydration, it is necessary to apply these following tips:
1. ) Meet daily fluid needs: It is recommended to meet daily fluid needs by drinking 8-12 glasses or 2 liters of water per day. We can anticipate drinking time before and after eating, or before and after waking up
2. ) Avoid drinks which contain high sugar: Ice tea, fruit cocktail, syrup or soft drinks are refreshing to drink when fast breaking, but these drinks contain high levels of sugar which if consumed will cause thirst.
3. ) Avoid drinks which contain caffeine: Coffee, tea, or chocolate are diuretics, meaning they increase urine output. More frequent urination, the body fluids will also be reduced more quickly.
4. ) Eat more fruits and vegetables: Vegetables and fruits naturally contain large amounts of fluid.
5. ) Limit salt intake: Foods that are high in salt content will increase thirst.
6. ) Limit outdoor activities: Apart from urine, we can also lose body fluids from sweat, therefore limit outdoor activities that cause the body to lose a lot of sweat.
